Normalize Order
Normalize the top-level key order in nova.config.json while preserving all configured values.
Summary
The normalize-order recipe applies the same canonical top-level sequence produced by nova utility configure and Nova scaffolds. It does not parse the file through Nova's configuration schema, so nested data and unrecognized top-level keys are preserved exactly as JSON values.
Recognized sections are ordered as follows:
projectentitiesemailsgithubworkflowsurlsreadmeworkspacesignoreFilesagentsrecipesenvironmentsettings
Unrecognized top-level keys follow the recognized sections in their existing relative order.
Why Use This Command?
- Keeps every Nova configuration visually consistent without changing its configured behavior.
- Applies the same top-level order used by the interactive configuration utility and new scaffolds.
- Preserves nested data and unrecognized top-level keys instead of coercing the file through Nova's schema.
Requirements
- Node.js runtime — Use a supported Node.js LTS release with the Nova CLI available.
- Project config — Run the command from a project root containing a readable
nova.config.jsonobject. - Recipe toggle — Set
recipes.nova-config.normalize-order.enabledtotrue.

Usage
nova recipe nova-config normalize-order
Use --replace-file to update the existing file without creating a dated Nova backup:
nova recipe nova-config normalize-order --replace-file
Preview whether normalization is needed without writing files:
nova recipe nova-config normalize-order --dry-run
The recipe is also included in nova utility run-recipes when its individual toggle is enabled.
